Very Slippery Ice

Monday morning it was about 30 - 32 degrees and we went out walking.

We were so glad that we wore our spikes! We would not have made it up this little hill otherwise.
The path across the field looked almost like the ice skating area!
That is ice reflecting the lights, not water.
We saw other people slipping and sliding as they tried to walk.
You can see some gravel, but it is below the ice, so it is not doing any good.
We had several bikes pass us!
We couldn't figure out how they can ride on that ice even if they do have studded tires!
It was finally time to throw out the amaryllis.
It was even pretty up to the end even though it was looking rather dehydrated.
A month or so ago, I asked Sister Stephens where she got her scarf. She said that she found it in one of her apartments. She also told me that I could have it when she went home. Transfers are next week and she is going home. She came to the office to give me her scarf. It looks so nice and warm!
There was a light in the kitchen at the office that seemed to be almost burned out.
Sister Helske said that she knew how to change that type of bulb. We had a difficult time trying to get the frame cover down to we could get to the bulb.
Plus it was just a little bit high.
We did move the table so it was easier to get from end to end of the fixture.
When we finally got the new bulb in, we realized that it wasn't the bulb after all. It was the starter. Sister Helske got that part down and we searched the office to see if we had one. We could not find one, so Elder Shurtz went over to the mall to see if he could find one there.
Success!
On Friday, the power went out at the mission office.
There were wide spread political strikes on Thurs. and Friday,
affecting among other things, flights, trains, buses, day care, food supply and more.
We wondered if it might be related to that. It was out for the whole complex, not just our building.
It is really hard to do anything in the mission office if you don't have electricity!
Luckily it did not stay off for very long.

How did it get to be February? The time is flying by.
Sister Lehtinen pointed out to all the missionaries that there are two seasonal treats available the first part of this month. Runeberg cakes are to celebrate the birthdate of Johan Ludvig Runeberg (Finland's national poet). Also laskiaspulla (shrove buns) are eaten for Shrove Tuesday (I think this is just before Lent).
There is a national debate which type is better. Both types are filled with whipped cream, and then one has s bit of strawberry jam and the other ones have a bit of almond paste.
We bought both types so we could do a taste test.
According to Elder Mitchell on Facebook, Saturday was the first Chinese endowment session in the Finland Helsinki temple. This sweet couple from our ward received their endowment.
I forgot to post a picture of my most recent puzzle. I finished it last week I think.
It was a beautiful day. The sun was already up by the time we left for church.
Quite a change from a month ago.
After church, we drove the sisters to the Angelosanto's home for a farewell dinner.
Transfers are this week and they wanted to be able to say goodbye to those who would be leaving.
These next couple of pictures are of some of the things that we saw on our drive.

There were so many people out enjoying the sunshine!
It was in the low 30s today, but it will be much colder for the rest of the week.
Here is a picture of the sunset that we saw from the Angelosanto's window.
Unfortunately, it doesn't look nearly as beautiful in the picture as it did in real life.
We realized as we were driving the sisters home that we didn't take any photos at the dinner.
We had to at least get a selfie with them before we dropped them off at their apartment.
We got back to our apartment in time to enjoy visiting
with the Shurtz's at the couple's retreat in Arizona via zoom.
