Mary and Logan Come to Visit

Monday morning we had a quick meeting with the office elders because the Lehtinens were not going to be there. We were mostly interested in celebrating Elder O'Bryan's birthday.
We brought cookies and ice-cream. Sister Kakkinen brought some pulla (and some chocolate bars as a gift for him). Elder O'Bryan brought some blueberry cake that he had made that morning.
It was still warm! YUM!

Later in the day, these two sisters came by because one of their phones was having problems after being submerged in milk for a short while and then being rinsed off under water.
Here they are getting the new phone set up.
Tuesday afternoon we made a trip to the airport to pick up Mary and Logan.
They were pretty much exhausted!
On Wednesday morning, we made a trip to the store to buy a few things for Mary and Logan to try.
Mary wanted to try the pickles that you buy by weight from the "barrel".
Mary and Logan came with us to the mission office. We stayed just long enough to get a few things done that we needed to, and to make sure that Sister Kakkinen knew what she needed to do.
We spent the next couple of hours picking blueberries.

One morning, Steve and Logan made blueberry muffins from some of the blueberries, but we didn't get a picture. Tonight (Sunday), Mary and I made mustikkapiirakka from some more.
On Thursday, we took the train downtown.
We took a tram to a stop near the kauppatori, and then got on the ferry to Suomenlinna.

We had fun exploring the island.
And going to some of the museums.
Logan was especially interested in the submarine, but I didn't take a picture there.
Here is another thing that he enjoyed!
When we left Suomenlinna, we did some shopping and bought some food at the kauppatori.
We also stopped at the Moomin store and rode the metro before heading back home.

On Friday, we drove to Hämeenlinna to visit the castle.
There was a wooden horse.
We all tried on the armor.
We drove to Hyvinkää, stopping on the way to get some lunch.
Hyvinkää is where the National Train Museum is located. Logan was very interested in going there.
It was so fun to be there with him.
Mary found a little folding chair as we got there, so that gave her a chance to sit.
Too bad that I didn't notice the chairs, I would have liked to be able to sit along the way as well.
Logan is so knowledgeable about all of the trains.
Steve enjoyed having Logan explain how each of them worked.
It was especially fun to watch Logan come around a corner and see a train that he was
particularly fond of, or surprised to see. He knew what type of train each on was.
Such a cute couple! It was fun to watch them together.
There were outside exhibits as well. Logan got this signal to work.
On the way home we saw some interesting clouds.
And a little bit later we spotted a double rainbow! So pretty!
On Saturday morning, we went to the temple.

In the afternoon, we went to a baptism while Mary and Logan took a little nap.
This is the man that was baptized.  He moved here from Estonia 4 years ago and was met by some sisters street contacting.
We went on a little walk so Logan could see the trenches from World War I that are near our apartment.
We went to church on Sunday.
After church, we drove around Helsinki.
We stopped at the Cathedral so Mary and Logan could go inside. We also stopped at Oodi library.
There were some beautiful flowers in large pots near the front door.
We went to the third floor and walked to the top of the slanted  floor to take a picture.
Back at our apartment, we saw another rainbow.
Sandy's daughter Savannah is getting married at the end of August.
Savannah's fiancée, Andrew is in Finland doing a study abroad.
We invited him to join us for dinner. It was so fun to get to know him a little bit!
